WILMINGTON — Tyrek Coger, an Elizabethtown native and 2015 graduate of Cape Fear Community College, recently signed to play Div. I basketball at the University of Mississippi.

Coger, who graduated from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, is a 6-foot, 9-inch 230-pound forward who has been ranked as the No. 18 junior college prospect. He has been recruited by N.C. State, Missouri, LSU, Miami, Virginia and Middle Tennessee State.

“Tyrek has excellent feet and great hands which allows him to finish inside against player much older and more physical than himself,” according to RecruitingNation. “He has a soft touch around the bucket and can fill the lanes on the break, scoring all the way to the bucket …”

During the 2014-15 season at Cape Fear CC, Coger averages 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots per game.

Coger will join the Ole Miss Rebels’ basketball team for the 2016-17 season.

He is the son of Michael Coger of Elizabethtown and Tomeka Collins of Pennsylvania.
