LAKE WACCAMAW — After a relatively slow first half, East Bladen’s girls played more like Lady Eagles basketball and knocked off East Columbus in a non-conference game on Friday, 50-44.
The win improves East Bladen to 10-0 overall.
The Lady Gators took an 11-8 lead after the first quarter and continued the momentum to send the Lady Eagles to its first halftime deficit, 25-21.
But coach Patty Evers’ patented defense took over after halftime, limiting East Columbus to just six points n the third quarter. The Lady Eagles outscored the home team by a 12-6 margin and took a 33-31 lead into the fourth frame.
Down the stretch, East Bladen lit up the scoreboard for 17 points — with Lacey Suggs draining eight free throws — and outscored the Lady Gators by four to seal the win.
Suggs led East Bladen with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Christiana Cromartie had eight points, three steals and two blocks, while Miller Heustess added three steals. Abby Ward contributed five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
