ELIZABETHTOWN — North Brunswick broke open a close game in the third quarter with a 15-0 explosion that all but sealed the 54-36 non-conference win over West Bladen in the East Bladen Holiday Classic on Monday.
The Lady Knights couldn’t get much offense generated early in the game. Only a three-pointer by Laikyn Pait highlighted the first quarter as West Bladen found itself trailing by 10-4 going into the second stanza.
Jerena Purdie became the Lady Knights’ offense in the second quarter, scoring all 10 of her points in the period. But the Lady Scorpions outscored West Bladen by a 12-10 margin and took a 22-14 lead into intermission.
The Lady Knights opened the second half with a 4-0 spurt, but North Brunswick answered with a 15-0 burst and raced out to a commanding 37-18 lead.
West Bladen used a 10-2 run to pull within 39-28 midway into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Scorpions finished the game on a 15-8 spurt to close out the win.
Pait led West Bladen with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Purdie scored the 10 second-quarter points and also pulled down 10 rebounds for her own double-double.
