DUBLIN — West Bladen moved into the second round of the Trojan Firecracker Dixie Pre-Majors Baseball Tournament with a 10-0 whitewashing of visiting North Brunswick on Monday.
The win improved the Knights to 11-5 and sends them to Tabor City on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to face South Columbus.
After a scoreless first inning, West Bladen got on the board with two runs in the second when Chandler Lennon smacked a double and scored on a single by Weston Pidgeon. Pidgeon then stole second and scored on a single by Brandon Carson.
In the third inning, the Knights plated four runs behind a triple by Jeremy Hunt, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Donald McCullum, followed by a single from Scott Bowen, a walk to Trent West and a two-run triple by Lennon. Ray Jones added an RBI double to give West Bladen a 6-0 lead.
After a quiet fourth frame, the Knights tacked on three runs in the fifth when Seth Britt doubled, McCullum cracked a triple for a run, a fielder’s choice RBI by Bowen scored McCullum, an error kept the inning alive and Lennon brought home the third run with a double for a 9-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, West Bladen put the finishing touches on the 10-run rule that ended the game when a Scorpion error put a runner on, Britt walked and an infield hit filled the bases. McCullum worked a walk to score the game’s final run.
On the mound, Jarrett Williams started for West Bladen and went five innings to earn the win, giving up just two hits but walking six. He struck out three. Trey Storms pitched the sixth for the Knights and gave up one hit, a walk and hit one.
At the plate, Lennon was 3-for-3 with a triple, two doubles and three RBI; Pidgeon was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Hunt was 2-for-4 with a triple; McCullum had the triple and three RBI; Jones had a double and RBI; Britt had a double; and Carson had an RBI.
