DYB umpire clinic to be held

WHITEVILLE — The annual District 2 Dixie Youth Baseball Umpire Clinic will be held at the Whiteville Recreation Center in Whiteville on Thursday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m.

A registration fee of $25 will be charged at the clinic. Registration at this clinic is required to umpire in Dixie Youth district or state tournaments this season. Many of the local leagues also require certified officials for regular season games.

The clinic will be conducted by Don Harritan, District Director Frankie Burney, and chief umpire J. D. Batchelor.

Spring Fling golf tourney scheduled

WHITE LAKE — Vineyard Golf at White Lake will host a Spring Fling Two-Man Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 19, with a starting time of 1 p.m.

The cost is $50 per player for members and $60 per player for guests. A skins game will be held at $20 per team and a putting contest will also be held at a cost of $10 per player. The payout for skins will stay within each flight.

The tournament will be flighted with cash and merchandise for winners. A meal will follow the tournament.

Rotary Club’s USO benefit schdeuled

ELIZABETHTOWN — The annual Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s 8K Trail Run and Walk to benefit the USO of North Carolina will be held Saturday, April 16, at the Brown’s Creek Nature Trail and Bike Park at 8:30 a.m.

Participants can register for the event by going to www.elizabethtownrotary8k.org.

The cost to register of the event is $25. Race packets may be picked up at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market on Friday, April 15, or on Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 a.m. at the park.
