Lady Eagles nip St. Pauls, 12-11

ELIZABETHTOWN — Miller Heustess fanned 10 batters, two in the seventh inning to hold off a St. Pauls rally, and East Bladen earned a 12-11 non-conference win over the visiting Lady Bulldogs.

After St. Pauls took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Lady eagles responded with five runs in the home half behind two errors, five wild pitches, two walks and a hit by Heustess.

In the second inning, East Bladen tacked on two runs thanks to three wild pitches and took a 7-1 advantage.

The Lady Bulldogs plated two runs in the third inning, but East Bladen sent three runs across in the bottom of the fourth frame on two walks, three wild pitches and a double by Faith Johnson for a 10-3 lead.

St. pauls scored a single run in the fifth, then added five runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 10-9. But East Bladen came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth behind two walks and two wild pitches.

The Lady Bulldogs began a rally that produced a pair of runs in the seventh, but fizzled with the tying run at third.




In Elizabethtown, a five-run second inning held up for visiting St. Pauls as the Bulldogs nipped East Bladen in a non-conference game Wednesday, 6-3.

After a scoreless first, St. Pauls used three walks, an error and a double to plate the five runs, but the Eagles answered with a run in the home half when Alex Coates launched a triple and scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 5-1.

St. Pauls tacked on a run in the third inning for a 6-1 edge, but East Bladen rallied for a run in the bottom of the third on a double by Sincere Smith and an RBI infield single by Kyle Tatum.

In the sixth, the Eagles plated their last run on an RBI single by Nikita Owens.
