ELIZABETHTOWN — West Bladen invaded the Eagles Nest on Monday for the season-opener of the Four County Conference tennis schedule and took home a 5-4 verdict.
The win improved the Knights to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the congference, while East Bladen fell to 0-1.
In singles action, Victor Jacome got West Bladen into the “W” column with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Jackson Hunt. The Eagles took the No. 2 match when Alex Gomes earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Manuel Arvizu, but the Knights rebounded with a lengthy 7-5, 1-6 and 10-3 win at No. 3 by Matthew Bobby over Robert Meggs.
In the No. 4 singles match, West Bladen’s Felix Rebollar defeated Gabriel Barnes by a 6-0, 6-4 margin before East Bladen got a win at No. 5 from Michael McDuffie over Joseluis Osorio, 6-4 and 6-4.
The Eagles knotted the match up at 3-3 when Adonis Johnson earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Edgardo Lara in the No. 6 match.
In doubles action, Jacome and Bobby teamed up to give the visiting Knights an 8-0 win at No. 1, and the No. 2 West Bladen tandem of Arvizu and Rebollar knocked off the East Bladen team of McDuffie and Meggs by an 8-2 margin to seal the team win. At No. 3, the Eagles duo of Barnes and Collins Pridgen earned an 8-2 win over West’s Osorio and Lara.
