DUBLIN — West Bladen got just what the doctor ordered to end a five-game losing streak when the Knights upended winless Union in a Four County Conference game Thursday, 4-3.
After two scoreless innings to open the game, the Spartans put two runs on the board in the top of the third and added a run in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
But West Bladen found its offense in the home half of the fifth when two-out singles by Ray Jones, Hunter Pait and Jeremy Hunt filled the bags with Knights and Weston Pidgeon walked to plate the run.
West Bladen cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth when a Union error allowed a run to score.
In the seventh, walks to Hunt and Pidgeon was followed by an RBI single from Chandler Lennon that knotted the game at 3-3. After an intentional walk to Trent West that loaded the bases, Jerrett Williams swung at the first pitch and sent a laser over the head of a drawn in outfield for the winning RBI.
Hunt was 2-for-3 at the plate for West Bladen and West matched it with a 2-for-3 night.
On the hill, Hunt was nearly masterful — giving up just two hits and striking out 13. All three runs were unearned for the Spartans.
