CLINTON — Using a revamped lineup to shake up the offense, the Lady Eagles broke out of a four-game scoring funk on Thursday with 14 runs and pitcher Miller Heustess twirled a four-hitter to secure a 14-3 Four County Conference win over Clinton.

Faith Johnson put East Bladen on the board in the first frame when she was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a passed ball.

The Lady Eagles added four more runs in the second inning when walks loaded the bases before a wild pitch brought home a run, Heustess slapped a two-run single and Johnson laced an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.

Clinton rallied for three unearned runs in the home half of the second inning behind three East Bladen errors to cut the deficit to 5-3. But the Lady Eagles plated a run in the top of the third on a walk and passed ball, then added another run in the fourth on a walk and error to open a 7-3 edge.

The lead was all but put out of reach in the sixth inning when East Bladen scored seven runs — highlighted by a triple and RBI single by Heustess, an RBI single by Shardajah Brown, an RBI double by Lauren Merritt, an RBI single from Anna Kate White. The last run gave East Bladen a 14-3 lead and ended the game on the mercy rule.

In the circle, Heustess fanned five and walked three to earn the win. She helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.
