ELIZABETHTOWN —There was no beating Mother Nature on Monday, but the lady Eagles did manage to earn a three-inning victory over visiting Union, 4-0.

The game was called when lightning moved into the area, and both coaches agreed to make the game official.

Miller Heustess almost single-handedly led East Bladen to the Four County Conference win — twirling a no-hitter and scored a run after getting the game’s only hit. In the circle, the senior pitcher hit two batters, walked none and struck out three.

With the score still knotted at 0-0 after the first frame, Lauren Merritt walked for the Lady Eagles and came all the way around to score after a Union error on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Anna Kate White.

In the third inning, Heustess laced a single and went to second on a wild pitch, then third on a passed ball. Moments later, Emily Scott walked to set up a double-steal, with Heustess scoring easily on the back end. Scott, who ended up at third after an errant throw, scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

A walk to Faith Johnson, wild pitch and RBI groundout by Shardajah Brown finished the scoring.
