DUBLIN –The Knights of West Bladen faltered in the opener of a twin bill Thursday against visiting East Columbus, but came back in the nightcap to earn a split of the Dixie Youth Pre-Majors contests.

In the first game, with the Gators already leading by a 4-2 margin after two innings, East Columbus erupted for eight runs in the decisive third inning to open a 12-2 advantage.

But the Gators were hardly done, and went on to hammer Knights pitching for five more runs and handed West Bladen a 17-2 thrashing.

In the second game of the double-header, the Knights’ offense awoke and earned a 9-4 victory.

With the two-game split, West Bladen is now 2-2 in the summer season. The Knights’ scheduled double-header on Tuesday against St. Pauls has been postponed to a later date. The next time West Bladen will play is Thursday when South Columbus comes to town for a double-header starting at 6 p.m.
