Eagles to compete in Battle of the Carolinas

LUMBERTON — The first Battle of the Carolinas football scrimmage, featuring eight teams, will be played at Alton Brooks Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 13, starting at 6 p.m.

The East Bladen Eagles will open the event facing off against Latta, S.C. — followed by Lake View, S.C., against Fairmont at 7 p.m.; West Brunswick versus Purnell Swett at 8 p.m.; and Dillon, S.C., against Lumberton at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $5 in advance — only 200 advance tickets available per school — and $7 at the gate.

The full concession stand will be available.

Lady Knights to hold volleyball tryouts

DUBLIN — West Bladen High School volleyball tryouts will be held Monday, Aug. 3, and Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. each day.

Those interested in trying out must have an updated physical and be present for both days to qualify for consideration.

A local 10U boys travel baseball team is looking for area players to fill its roster.

The season will start in August and tryouts will be scheduled soon.

Thundering Herd tournament seeks golfers

WHITE LAKE — Vineyard Golf at White Lake continues to look for golfers to compete in its weekly Thundering Herd tournament each Thursday.

The nine-hole competition tees off at 6 p.m.

Cost for the tourament is $18 per member and $20 per guest, with $10 from each player going into the winner’s pot.

Those interested in playing can call the pro shop at 247-6132 no later than 5:45 p.m.
