CERRO GORDO — West Bladen’s girls tennis team traveled to Cerro Gordo on Monday and handed West Columbus a 9-0 non-conference loss.

The Lady Vikings managed to earn just 12 games in singles competition, including none in the No. 1 and No. 2 competitions.

Alanna Ludlum whitewashed her opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-0, while Amber Long mirrored that effort at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Helen Lopez earned a 6-4, 6-2 win; Conner Brisson won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4; Savannah Lee took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5; and Autumn Brisson earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.

In doubles action, Ludlum and Long teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1; Conner Brisson and Lee took an 8-5 win; and at No. 3, Autumn Brisson and Hannah Arnett were 8-2 winners.

“We are getting solid play out of Alanna and Amber at the top of our order,” said West Bladen coach Jeff Atkinson. “They are playing some great tennis right now. Our lower seeds are improving as well.

“We still have work to do on getting our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams playing better together and we still have to do a better job cutting down our unforced errors,” he added, “but we are young with two sophomores and a freshman playing our 4-6 seeds. Hopefully we can get that game experience by playing these non-conference matches that will help when we hit conference play.”

The Lady Knights will travel to East Columbus on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
