WHITEVILLE –East Bladen scored 29 unanswered points to pull away from a pesky Whiteville squad, fueled by the twin engines of Ethan and Eian Hines, en route to a 43-15 non-conference win on Friday.

The Eagles evened their early season mark at 1-1.

East Bladen got on the board first when Ethan Hines escaped for a 17-yard touchdown run 3:36 into the game. The Wolfpack blocked the extra point, but the Eagles were up 6-0.

Whiteville came right back moments later on a drive that took just 10 seconds.The extra point put Whiteville up, 7-6.

But East Bladen didn’t fold, instead putting together a drive that ended with a fourth-down, 12-yard touchdown pass from Quinton Bedsole to Ethan Hines at the 4:25 mark of the first quarter. Bedsole then hit Eian Hines with a pass for the two-point conversion and the Eagles went up, 14-7.

Neither team threatened until midway into the second quarter, when Whiteville got a 3-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to take a 15-14 edge.

That re-awoke the Eagles, and Eian Hines took a handoff on the next possession and raced 63 yards for a touchdown. Bedsole found Ethan Hines with a pass in the end zone for the two-point try and East Bladen regained the lead, 22-15.

That was the beginning of the end for the Wolfpack.

Whiteville fumbled away its next possession, and the Eagles took advantage with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Bedsole to Eian Hines.Pierce Melvin kicked the extra point and East Bladen was up, 29-15 with 3:50 left in the first half.

After holding Whiteville once again, the Eagles went into their two-minute drill that was culminated with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Bedsole to Ethan Hines with just 6 seconds left in the half. Melvin added the point after to put East Bladen up, 36-15.

On their opening possession of the second half, the Eagles put together a 63-yard drive that was capped off by an 11-yard touchdown run from Ethan Hines. Melvin’s PAT gave East Bladen its final margin of victory.

Ethan Hines rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He also hauled in two passes for 46 yards and two scores. Eian Hines rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass. James Higgins had 61 yards on 16 carries and Xavier Wooten rushed for 45 yards on five carries.

Through the air, Bedsole was 3-of-3 for 60 yards and three touchdowns.

The Eagles will host St. Pauls in a non-conference game on Friday at 7 p.m.
