Roundup: Lady Knights play for ‘Cure ALL Knight’

DUBLIN — The Lady Knights couldn’t hold off visiting Pender County and dropped a 25-11, 25-17 and 28-26 in Thursday’s Four County Conference volleyball match.

The match was also West Bladen’s “Cure ALL Knight.”

“The teams (jayvee and varsity) played in honor of Kassidy Anderson’s mom, who had surgery Wednesday for cancer and Kathryn Schultz, a senior player who has ulcerated colitis that requires chemo once a month,” said West Bladen coach Gaye Davis. “Both teams played with heart. I told them before the game the final score was not what tonight was about.”

The Lady Knights were led by Morgan Schumacher with six kills; Schultz with five kills; Raegan Davis had three kills and two aces; Logan Autry had three kills; Anderson had three kills; and Patience Parker had two kills.

With the loss, West Bladen fell to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference; Pender County improved to 8-11, 7-4.


Lady Eagles swept


– In Rocky Point on Thursday, the Lady Eagles couldn’t finish off Heide Trask and fell in five sets in the Four County Conference match.

East Bladen won the first set 25-20, then took a 25-20 loss that knotted the match at 1-1.

The Lady Eagles answered with a tough 25-23 win in the third set, by the Lady Titans responded with a 25-16 win in the fourth set to again tie things up.

In the deciding game, Heidi Trask dominated for a 25-6 match-winner.

The loss drops East Bladen to 3-12 overall and 0-9 in the conference.


Eagles fall, 3-2


— East Bladen couldn’t protect its first-half lead and suffered a 2-1 loss Wednesday in Dunn against Midway in a Four County Conference match.

With the loss, the Eagles fell to 9-4-1 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

In that first half, Brooks McGill found Grey Cabellero with a pass and the senior did the rest, finding the back of the net for a 1-0 edge that held up until halftime.

But the Raiders answered in the second half, scoring twice while keeping East Bladen at bay to seal the win.

Spencer Scott made five saves in the net for East Bladen.
