Lady Knights win first-ever dual team tennis playoff

DUBLIN — West Bladen won its first-ever Class 2-A dual team match on Tuesday, beating Beddingfield out of the Eastern Plains Conference 5-1 and avoiding the need for any doubles matches.

In the singles matches, Alanna Ludlum earned a tough 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 1; Helen Lopez took a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 3; Conner Brisson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Savannah Lee breezed at No. 5 for a 6-1, 6-1 victory; and Alyssa Bell earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6.

The Four County Conference champions, now 17-0, will face the Bartlett Yancy-Washington winner on Tuesday.


Volleyball playoffs


The Lady Knights earned themselves a spot in the Class 2-A playoffs, but along with it comes an opening-round 500-mile round-trip excursion.

West Bladen, 10-9 overall this season, got the No. 10 seed in the East Regionals and will face the No. 7 seed Elizabetht City Northeastern, 16-6, out of the Northeastern Coastal Conference.

The match will be played W4ednesday at 6 p.m. in Elizabeth City.
