Bladen Rotary Clubs to honor World War II veterans

Bladen County’s local Rotary Clubs — in Elizabethtown and Bladenbor0 — are planning a lunch to honor military veterans who served during World War II. Anyone who is a World War II veteran, or if you are the spouse, family member or friend of a World War II veteran, the clubs want to hear from you.

The two Rotary Clubs are working together to honor the service and heroism of Bladen County’s World War II veterans at a special ceremony on May 31 at 1 p.m. at Cape Fear Vineyard & Winery.

These World War II veterans have been referred to by some as the “Greatest Generation.” They left their homeland to serve around the world including such places as Europe, Africa, and the South Pacific in order to defeat Fascism and tyranny.

The Elizabethtown and Bladenboro Rotary clubs need your help in locating surviving World War II veterans. Families, friends and government officials are asked to notify the Elizabethtown Rotary Club with veteran locator information.

Those with information are asked to contact Rotarian Darrell Page at 910-862-4195, Elizabethtown Rotary Club President Charlotte Smith at 910-876-5393 or mail veteran information (name, address, telephone number) to: Honor a WWII Veteran, Elizabethtown Rotary Club, Attn: Darrell Page, P.O. Box 2103, Elizabethtown, N.C. 28337.
