Local filmmaker featured in Our State

Staff report

Robert Kinlaw, filmmaker and producer of the video documentary titled “White Lake – Remembering the Nation’s Safest Beach,” has been selected by Our State magazine as the voice of Bladen County in the September 2015 collector’s issue.

“One Hundred Voices from One Hundred Counties” is the feature presentation of the September issue. Author Jeremy Markovich searched across North Carolina to find representatives that reflect their home counties. He comments in the magazine, “Months ago, we started looking (for) someone who represents what a place was, or is, or will be. “

The magazine learned of Kinlaw when his White Lake video documentary aired on UNC-TV in June. Kinlaw was astounded when the magazine called him.

“I was completely surprised and honored,” he states. The 20-year old is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He produced the documentary while still in high school.

WECT-TV featured an interview with Markovich about the selection process, which can be viewed at http://www.wect.com/story/29955759/our-state-magazine-recognizes-100-voices-of-north-carolina.

Our State magazine was founded in 1933. The corporate headquarters are in Greensboro, North Carolina. The September 2015 issue is on newsstands now.
