ELIZABETHTOWN — A new year often brings the anticipation of firsts, and one of those first is the first baby born.

At Bladen County Hospital, that precious moment took more than 44 hours, but finally arrived at 8:34 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, when Ayden Jah’mir Lacewell was born.

The youngster weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 20 inches in length.

For the proud parents — Tanashia Douglas of Bladenboro and Dre’Shaun Lacewell of Council — it was their first child.

“Everyone at Bladen County Hospital has been great,” Douglas said of her birthing experience.

The child’s maternal grandparents are Marvin and Melissa Lacewell; his paternal grandparents are Charlene Montgomery and Darren Lacewell.

The youngster was delivered by Dr. Allan Boruszak and the attending nurses included Leanna Britt, Nathalie Gore, Amber Sholar, Wilma LeSane, Annette Price and nursing assistant Lizbith Jaimez.
