Blueberries are king in Ammon on Saturday as the Seventh Annual Blueberry Festival kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Ammon Community Building. The proceeds from the breakfast will go to the Ammon Fire Department.
A parade through "downtown" Ammon will begin at 10 a.m., which will be followed by an opening ceremony. During the opening ceremony, dignitaries and area politicians will be recognized. Following the ceremony, a "few" items will be auctioned, including a flat of Bladen County blueberries.
Entertainment will begin following the opening ceremony. It will include Gospel and Country music, singing, puppet shows, dancing, and much, much more, according to organizers. Games, rides, crafts, jewelry, food will also be available. The festivities will continue until 4 p.m.
"We are proud of Bladen County's blueberry farmers and their role in the agricultural economy of southeastern North Carolina," said Marguerite Coble, one of the organizers of the festival. "We recognize them for all their hard work, which provides the world with delicious Bladen County blueberries.
"We encourage everyone to come out and join us as we celebrate these individuals and their contribution to our economy," she added. "We look forward to you helping to make this day a great success.
