Two adult children of a Bladenboro couple were killed Monday in an accident involving a tractor-trailer and two cars on Interstate 40 about 10 miles east of Greensboro.
According to a N.C. Highway Patrol spokesperson, Sara Eden Age, 24, of Raleigh and Nathaniel David Age, 27, of Greensboro, were killed in the crash that occurred shortly after midnight near an area of road construction. They were the children of Ronald Age of Bladenboro, and the stepchildren of his wife, Doris Age.
According to the investigating trooper, H. S. Martin, the 2001 Toyota Nathaniel Age was driving slowed to a stop as traffic narrowed down to one lane in the construction area. The tractor-trailer failed to reduce speed and crashed into the Toyota at about 60 miles per hour.
The crash dragged the Toyota 277 feet and hurled it into a concrete barricade. The car came to rest against the barrier and underneath the truck, Martin said. The Ages were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two individuals in a third vehicle involved in the accident received only minor injuries and were taken to Moses Cone Hospital where they were treated and released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Rufus Cobbs, Jr., 59, of Eden was charged with failure to reduce speed prior to the collision, Martin said. Other charges are pending.
