Investigators are still examining the Friday crash that claimed the life of a Bladenboro man.
The crash occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of N.C. 87 Bypass and U.S. 701 just south of Elizabethtown.
No charges have been filed in the case.
According to a report by N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Kyle Starkloff, Delano William Bobbett was killed when the 1990 Acura he was driving was struck broadside shortly after 3 p.m.
Bobbett's vehicle was struck as he crossed N.C. 87 headed north. The report said Deputy Gary D. Woodward of the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department was travelling east on N.C. 87 when he apparently failed to stop for a traffic light.
Bobbett had the right of way at the time of the accident, according to the report.
Bobbett, who was 63, was pronounced dead on the scene by coroner Hubert Kinlaw. He lived at 400 Ronald Britt Rd., Bladenboro.
His granddaughter, Elexis Singletary, 18, was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Her condition is not available.
Damages to the Acura were estimated at $9,800. Damages to the Dodge Durango were estimated at $6,000. The Dodge is owned by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department.
Woodward and two other Brunswick deputies, Justin Brown and Preston Nowell, were returning from Fayetteville after purchasing new uniforms. They were treated and released at Bladen County Hospital.
Officials are trying to determine if the stoplights were functioning correctly, or if the light may have switched prematurely.
