I am writing in response to the Friday, July 18, article entitled "Bladenboro moves on derelict structures."

I, along with everyone else in Bladenboro, would like to see the town more pleasing to the eye. However, you have to realize that Bladenboro is an old town that has done very little changing with time. All the buildings with the exception of a few need a "face lift." Not only buildings need attention, there are houses and properties in the city limits that need cleaning up also.

Main Street in Bladenboro is considered the "beauty" of Bladenboro when the azaleas bloom, not to mention the cascading trees over the highway. Many people have remodeled as well as built their homes to help the looks of Main Street. but there are a few homes on Main Street that something needs to be done to. When you ride down the street and you see this home that the front porch is falling off and the shingles are missing and has seriously been let go, you wonder what all the fuss is over one building that is empty.

I would think that someone living in a home that the ceiling on the front porch has fallen is a lot more dangerous than an empty building. I think if the town is going to try to improve the looks of Bladenboro they should look at the whole town of Bladenboro instead of certain areas.

Something needs to be done from the stoplight to the railroad track to prevent flooding when a hard rain comes. Houses as well as businesses need to be cleaned up. Do you think an owner of a big chain such as Wal-Mart would ride through Bladenboro and think, "We need to build here?" No they wouldn't.

Bladenboro is a small "one horse town" and there is hardly any room here for growth so we need to clean up what we have and use it wisely.
