A big second half gave the Whiteville Lady Wolfpack a 65-50 win over the East Bladen Lady Eagles in a Waccamaw Conference basketball game played at Whiteville Tuesday night.
A 3-pointer by Shekita Whittington just before the buzzer ending the first quarter gave the Lady Eagles a 15-12 lead.
Whiteville scored the first 10 points of the second quarter, taking a seven-point lead, 22-15, midway the period. East Bladen scored the final 11 points of the quarter, taking a 26-22 halftime lead.
Whiteville ran off the first nine points of the third quarter and never looked back. The Lady Wolfpack led 43-36 at the end of the third quarter, and outscored East Bladen 22-14 in the final period.
Dorothy Corbett led the Lady Eagles with 14 points and Paige Powell added 12. Shannon McCallum paced the Lady Wolfpack with 19 points and Ashley French chipped in with 16.
The win upped Whiteville's record to 7-4 in conference play and 14-6 overall. The Lady Wolfpack were forced to forfeit four conference games because of an ineligible player.
East Bladen saw its record fell to 6-4 in conference play and 10-9 overall. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to close out regular season play tonight as they travel to South Brunswick.
