A public hearing will be held tonight (Tuesday) regarding a rezoning request for one of the last largely undeveloped parcels at White Lake.

The hearing will be held during the regular monthly meeting of the White Lake Town Council.

Tom Keith has requested that his property near the intersection of U.S. 701 and N.C. 53 be rezoned from R1 to R2 and Business. The White Lake planning board at its Aug. 17 meeting recommended the request be denied.

According to the White Lake zoning ordinance, R1 allows, among other things, stick-built homes and Class A manufactured housing (modular homes).

R2, or Recreational Residential, allows Class B and C manufactured homes. Business zoning allows most kinds of commercial enterprises, as well as agricultural production, athletic and amusement parks. Single and multi-family dwellings, condominiums, and group homes are among the other uses allowed with a special permit.

One of the two parcels adjoin the Turtle Cove subdivision and stretches from U.S. 701 and N.C. 53 to the lake.
