A Bladenboro mother of two died Thursday after a fiery head-on collision near Tar Heel.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Pamela Jean Bryan died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Thursday. Bryan was driving a 1989 Oldsmobile that was struck by a 1998 Dodge driven by Tamala Tasha McLamb of White Oak around 1:55 p.m. Thursday.

Trooper P.M. Sanders investigated the crash.

McLamb was traveling north on N.C. 131 when she swerved left and crossed the centerline, losing control of the car. Bryan ran partway off the road to the right but could not avoid the collision.

Bryan's vehicle went off the road and crashed in a ditch, and McLamb's Dodge came to rest partly on the shoulder, where it caught fire.

Both vehicles were traveling around 55 miles per hour, according to the report.

Damages to the Dodge were estimated at $3,500. The Oldsmobile sustained around $2,500 in damage. Both vehicles were demolished.

McLamb is 17 and lives at 2576 Gum Spring Rd., White Oak. Bryan was 27 and lived at 1792 Pleasant Grove Church Rd., Bladenboro.

An infant in McLamb's car was transported to Bladen County Hospital. April Hales, 23, and an infant in Bryan's vehicle were also transported to Bladen County Hospital. All three were seriously injured.

Charges are pending in the crash, Trooper Sanders said.

Bryan was the fourth person to die on Bladen County highways this year. The last fatality occurred July 17, when a Bladenboro youth crashed on Berry Lewis Road on his way home.

Last year, 13 people died in vehicle crashes in the county.

Bladen County EMS, and Tar Heel Rescue Squad, along with volunteer firefighters from Station 57 Tar Heel, Station 51 Bladenboro, and Station 53 Dublin, responded to the crash, along with the N.C. Highway Patrol and Bladen County Sheriff's Department.

Traffic on N.C. 131 near Tar Heel was blocked for a majority of the afternoon after the crash.

Bryan is survived by two children and parents.
