Both teams were unbeaten in conference play going into the contest. The win upped Whiteville's record to 5-0 in league play and 7-2 overall. The Wolfpack lost non-conference games to Wilmington's Ashley and West Bladen.
The Eagles saw their record fall to 4-1 in conference play and 7-2 overall. East Bladen's other loss came against Clinton in a non-conference outing.
The Wolfpack won Thursday's contest after scoring on a 3-yard run with just over a minute remaining in the game. The Eagles blocked the extra point attempt and took over near midfield following the ensuing kickoff, but fumbled the ball away on the first down from scrimmage, and the Wolfpack ran the clock out.
Whiteville scored on a 12-yard pass play with 22 seconds remaining in the first quarter, and converted on the conversion point tom take a 7-0 lead.
On the third play following the ensuing kickoff, Michell Johnson broke a 22-yard scoring run as the Eagles trimmed the deficit to 7-6 with 10:59 remaining in the second quarter.
Four minutes later Johnson scored on a 1-yard run and quarterback Jahrael Cromartie passed to David Parks for the two-point conversion as East Blade took a 14-7 lead.
Whiteville tied the game on its next possession, scoring on a 26-yard run. The extra point kick was good as the Wolfpack knotted the game, 14-14, with 4:44 remaining in the half.
Antwan Willis returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown as the Eagles went back ton top, 20-14 with 4:28 remaining in the half.
Whiteville scored on its first possession of the second half to tie the contest 20-20. The touchdown came on a 35-yard run with 3:43 remaining in the third quarter.
The Eagles are scheduled to complete their season Thursday night when they travel to South Brunswick to take on the Cougars.
