White Lake Police are putting drug users on notice: drugs are not welcome in the resort town.
In addition to a cocaine arrest on Sunday, three local men were charged in separate incidents with drug possession and paraphernalia charges.
"We won't put up with drug use here," White Lake Police Chief Bruce Smith said. "If we find you with drugs at White Lake, we will arrest you."
According to police reports, Patrolman Mike Salmon arrested two suspects within minutes of each other Saturday night.
Following a routine traffic stop, Salmon charged Edron Lewis, 26, with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lewis lives at 3329 Peanut Plant Rd., Elizabethtown.
Minutes later, shortly before midnight, Salmon arrested Joshua Williams, 18, of Wilson on the same charges. Both men were released on bond by a magistrate.
Also on Saturday, Patrolman Matt Hester arrested Reginald McDowell, 17, of Knoxville Lane, Elizabethtown, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. McDowell was arrested at the Goldston's parking lot. He was also released by a magistrate on bond.
In an unrelated case at the lake, Bladen County deputies were called to a Highway Patrol traffic stop on N.C. 53 after troopers reportedly found drugs in a car.
Deputies Ray Marlowe and William Cain charged Travis Sellers, 19, with possession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sellers was jailed under a $2,000 bond. He lives at 2628 Elkton Rd., Clarkton.
In Sunday's case, three men and a woman from Clinton were arrested for possession of cocaine after Patrolman Matt Hester discovered cocaine and an open alcohol container in their vehicle.
Since none of the four suspects would admit to possessing the drugs, all four were arrested.
