ESC employer honor goes to Smithfield Packing

Smithfield Packing of Tar Heel was honored with a 2005 Employment Security Commission (ESC) Employer Award on Wednesday, May 18, during a luncheon held at the Coharie Country Club in Clinton.
ESC Chair Harry E. Payne Jr. presented the award to Smithfield Human Resources representatives Renee' Arthur and Jessica Wilson. Smithfield was one of 16 employers in the southeastern region of the state to receive the award.
A total of 101 employers were presented the awards at ceremonies held in different regions of the state. Criteria for the award include exceptional contributions to the North Carolina economy through new business, business expansion, business innovation, and community involvement, as well as partnership with ESC and its local workforce development associates.
"Employers that are hiring and creating jobs are the backbone of our economy. This award is a means to thank them for working with the Employment Security Commission to build their communities," said Payne.
The ESC Employer Awards were first given in 1987. The winners are selected by local and regional ESC management staff. This year marks the 18th year that the Employment Security Commission has recognized and thanked employers in this way for their exceptional contributions.
