An annual event as much a part of autumn as football and hunting season takes place Wednesday, as Bladen County Shriners raise money for a good cause.
The annual Shrine Club Fish Fry is Wednesday. All proceeds go to the Shriner's children's hospitals.
No child is refused treatment at a Shriner hospital for inability to pay, said Shrine member Phillip Little. Shriners often arrange transportation for young patients, as well as helping families of youngsters being treated at the facilities.
Currently, 22 Shriner's Children's Hospitals are in operation in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Three of those hospitals, including one in Greenville, S.C., are centers for pediatric orthopedic and spinal work. Others specialize in burn care and reconstructive surgery.
"You can't ask for a more satisfying cause to support," Little said.
The fish plates are $6 each, and will be available at three county sites. In Elizabethtown, Shriners and volunteers will dish out the plates at the Food Lion parking lot on West Broad Street.
Tar Heel customers can drop by the Town Hall on N.C. 87 West, and in Bladenboro, plates will be served at the Bo's grocery store on West Seaboard Street.
Diners can eat at the sites or use a faster take-out line.
Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Shrine Club member, or plates can be purchased on the day of the sale.
