Almost before the ink is dry on election filing forms, the Bladen County Democrats will host a candidate’s forum Thursday night.
Party chair Wes Johnson said the event ios free, but donations are welcome. A meal will be provided starting at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Woodmen of The World building on N.C. 242 North, between Elizabethtown and Jones Lake.
“Everyone is encouraged to get there early,” he said, “so they’ll have time to meet the candidates and talk to them one on one. The hopefuls will also get a few minutes to state their platforms.”
Party officers will also be recognized, as well as local officials who attend.
“This is a crucial time for the party,” Johnson said. “Voters will only have two more chances to meet the candidates before the primary in May.”:
The county convention is April 1. The convention will be held at the county courthouse starting at 11 a.m. Another rally will be held later in the month.
Johnson said he hopes to see a large turnout at the rally next week.
“Far too many voters are apathetic, especially about local races,” he said. “We hope this gives everyone the chance to come out and meet the people who want to represent them.”
