A Bladenboro woman died Monday in a head-on collision on Twisted Hickory Road.

Tina Helms, 38, was killed in the wreck, according to a report with the N.C. Highway Patrol. She was traveling north on Twisted Hickory Road between Dublin and Elizabethtown when a 2005 Chevrolet truck driven by Cary Clark Meshaw of Clarkton crossed the center line.

The two vehicles collided head-on, nearly coming to a stop with the impact. Meshaw’s truck overturned and came to rest in the roadway. Helm’s 1994 Chevrolet landed in a nearby ditch. Both vehicles were demolished.

Meshaw was briefly trapped under his vehicle. He is expected to recover from his injuries. He was transported to Bladen County Hospital. Due to federal health privacy laws, no further information was immediately available on his condition.

Helms lived on Burney Road near Bladenboro. Meshaw lives on Singletary Street in Clarkton.

Charges are still pending in the case, according to the Highway Patrol. Trooper Ryan Capps of the Highway Patrol is investigating.

Helms was the fourth person to die on Bladen County roads this year.

The previous three deaths in unrelated crashes occured near Tar Heel. A total of nine people died on Bladen County roads last year.
