Vote.

If you haven’t by the time you read this editorial, put this newspaper down and race to your designated polling place ... Now.

There are few things you will do in your lifetime more important than marking a ballot. Voting, on the Life’s Importance Scale, is probably somewhere behind raising your children and obeying the law ... But not far behind.

As Americans, it is not only our right to vote, it is our birthright. Unfortunately, each year, it seems fewer and fewer folks choose to go to the polls. Our young people are notorious for giving up their greatest personal right. That’s why it’s so important for you to get out and set a positive example for our young adults. Show them that democracy works, that every vote counts and is vital to keeping the democratic machine oiled and running smoothly.

Ask your friends if they voted. And if not, give them a helpful nudge toward the polls.

Ask your family members if they voted. If not, give them the same friendly nudge.

Voting is one of the freedoms that so many of our men and women have fought and died for. Don’t let their sacrifice be in vain. No matter how jaded you feel toward the poltical process, put aside your cynicism for one day and do your duty.

Your vote does count ... and it always will.
