ELIZABETHTOWN — As you enter the world of All About Kids, the bells on the door jangle loudly, heralding your way into a separate realm. You become immersed in the universe of fun and adventure that the toy store offers.
Owned by Brenda Dillman, All About Kids opened Oct. 2, 2006. This whimsical world offers everything from candy to crafts. There are educational toys which are, according to Dillman, wonderful teacher resources. The pale, delicate, hand-sculpted porcelain dolls sit on the shelves seemingly saying “Take me home.” There are unique kits that teach everything from magic tricks to forensics. There is a full rack of hand-puppets, and unique books for all interests. There are puzzles, games, stuffed animals, and even miniature pianos.
For adults who never grew up, there are classic retro toys waiting to be re-experienced. Dillman says she is the only vendor in North Carolina of Usborne books and Vander Wall chocolates. If you’re going on a road trip, check out her selection of travel games. These unique products make the store somewhat of a novelty in Elizabethtown, which makes Dillman proud. Having previously worked as an office manager and an administrator at a rest home, she loves the stress-free environment her store offers. When asked what her favorite items were, she said, “I love the retro toys, like the Lincoln Logs and pick-up-sticks, because they take me back to my childhood.”
With a gleam in her eye she said “There is always something new here, which I love; it’s exciting — every delivery is like Christmas.”
All About Kids is located at 118 West Broad St., Elizabethtown. Dillman says the store is open every weekday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For teachers, the store’s Web site, www.allaboutkidseducational.com, offers a free catalog. So if you’re downtown Elizabethtown, go see Brenda Dillman at All About Kids, because you can never have too much fun in your life.
