KURE BEACH — Dorothy Olivia Tyson Bridger, 94, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at her residence.

Dorothy was born April 8, 1914, in Raines, S.C., daughter of the late Frank J. Tyson and Susie Peal Tyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Craven “R.C.” Bridger Jr.; a son, Robert C. Bridger III; infant grandson, Robert C. Bridger IV; three sisters, Dale Plowden, Myrtle Prevette, and Nell Jernigan; and one brother, Frank J. Tyson.

Mrs. Bridger was raised in Georgetown, S.C., attended Queens College in Charlotte, and graduated from Meredith College. She moved to Bladenboro for a position as a third grade teacher where she met and married R.C. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bladenboro. Dorothy and R.C. retired to Kure Beach in 1977.

She is survived by her children, Frank Bridger (Lynda) of Raleigh, Lawrence Bridger and Quentin Bridger of Kure Beach, George Bridger (Jean) and Dorothy “Dotty” Bridger Freedland (Irv) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Tyson Bridger, Margaret Bridger White (Jim), Parker Bridger (Cindy), and Harrison, Burke, and David Freedland, all of Wilmington, Anita Bridger Gill (Brad) of Raleigh, Craven Bridger (Sarah) of Middlesex, Jackie Bridger of Atlanta, Ga., Ryan Bridger (Amy) of West Palm Beach, Fla., Meredith Bridger Gibson (Billy) of Raleigh, and Ashlyn Hunt of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Beau Bridger, Jim, Liza, and Anna White, Bridger and Robert Gill, Winnie and Cash Bridger, Annabel Bridger, and Luke, Tanner, and Saylor Hunt.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, Bladenboro, N.C., with Rev. Bert Young officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. 

The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Mary Pantana, Amy, Debbie, Donna, Isabel, and many more who did such a wonderful job over so many years of caring for Mom.
