BLADENBORO — The Bladenboro Police Department will kick off its annual Christmas for Kids campaign on Nov. 1.

The fund drive assists students from Bladenboro Primary School for the holidays. The children are chosen by the teachers and guidance counselor of the school, Bladenboro Police Chief Ronnie Rising said, with a limit of one child per family.

“The money raised goes to take the kids on a shopping trip,” Rising said. “We try to help about 15 to 20 kids.”

When the children are taken shopping, each chaperoned student is allowed to choose needed items.

“They are encouraged to concentrate on things of need, such as clothing,” Rising said.

The department raised about $3,500 during last year’s campaign, he said.

Donations will be accepted from Nov. 1 through the month of December at the Bladenboro Police Department. For more information, call 863-3333.
