ST. PAULS — An off-duty Bladen County Sheriff’s deputy stuck and killed a horse on Chicken Foot Road on Tuesday, according to Capt. Rodney Hester of the Sheriff’s Office.
Kenny Simmons, 45, was reportedly traveling east on Chicken Foot Road near the Bladen-Cumberland county line when his pickup truck struck the horse at about 6:30 a.m.
The accident was investigated by Highway Patrol Trooper A.M. Pate.
According to reports, Simmons’ truck crossed the center line after hitting the horse, ran off the left side of the road and into a ditch. Simmons was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville with minor injuries. He was treated and released.
“I spoke to him yesterday, and he said he’s just pretty sore but nothing was broken,” Hester said.
Hester said the horse, which reportedly belonged to Diane Sebastian, was killed in the accident. Sebastian lives on Chicken Foot Road in St. Pauls.
