WHITE LAKE — On Tuesday, councilmen here heard an update on planned renovations on a building that would serve as an urgent care facility.
Town Clerk Brenda Clark said currently there is no contract between the hospital and the town for the facility.
“The hospital has simply expressed an interest in the facility,” said Clark.
The facility is a house located beside town hall and the Summit Engineering group is completing changes to the plans for the renovations, said Mayor Goldston Womble.
The modifications were minor and consisted of rearranging the lab in order to ensure compliance with HIPPA requirements, said Clark. The modified plans have been advertised for bids and the deadline is 5 p.m. on March 6.
“The town wanted to see what the costs would be to have it (the home) renovated,” said Clark.
The town is also seeking grant funding from several sources to defray the costs of the renovations should the project move forward, according to Clark.
In other business, the town adopted a resolution of support of the federal economic recovery stimulus bill that was recently adopted by Congress.
“To show their support for the stimulus package, other local governments are or have adopted resolutions of support,” Womble said.
Womble said the town has submitted a letter of intent to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Public Water Supply Section stating the town’s intentions to apply for funds for public drinking water from the stimulus package funds.
Tim Blount cast the lone “no” vote.
The council also voted to approve the 2008 tax lien list on real property for advertising between March 1 and June 30.
