RED SPRINGS - Red Springs closed the first half with a 12-2 spurt enroute to a 60-34 Southeastern 1-A/2-A victory over visiting West Bladen Tuesday night.

A pair of rebound baskets by Corletha Bartley and consecutive 3-pointers by Teshira Patterson and Sylvonia Booker stretched a 15-13 Lady Red Devil lead to 27-15.

Taylor Smith nailed a 15-footer and turned a rebound into a 3-point play to keep West Bladen within 32-20. Kenedra Smith sank two free throws, and Vanecia Kelly canned a 15-footer as West Bladen closed the gap to 37-24 with 3:11 left in the period.

Booker bombed in a pair of 3-balls and Bartley added a pair of baskets to key a 12-0 Red Springs run before Mary Caitlin Clark beat the Lady Red Devil press for a layup.

Bartley poured in 24 points to lead the Red Springs scoring. Center Brittany Bethea powered in eight of her 13 points in the first period.

Kelly and Taylor Smith shared scoring honors for West Bladen with eight points each. Staci Newkirk and Kenedra Smith followed with seven points each.

The Lady Red Devils jumped to an early 8-2 lead, but Kelly banked in a rebound and Newkirk drilled a 3-pointer to trim the margin to 8-7. Red Springs led 9-7 at the quarter break.

Taylor Smith fired in a 15-footer and Kelly put back a rebound. Newkirk connected on a 12-footer to slice the Red Springs lead to 15-13.
