Eagles fly past East Columbus, 4-0

ELIZABETHTOWN — Joel Cromartie scored a pair of goals to lead East Bladen High past East Columbus High on Monday, 4-0, in a non-conference match.

The Eagles improved to 3-2-1.

Hastin McGill and Campbell White each scored a goal for East Bladen to go along with Cromartie’s pair of scores.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first half, then added three scores in the second half to seal the win.

McGill was credited with a pair of assists, while Cromartie added an assist.

— In Dublin on Monday, the Knights of West Bladen High had a chance to knot the game late, but a penalty shot was stopped and South Columbus High took a 6-5 win in the the Waccamaw Conference opener for West Bladen.

The Knights are now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Clay Allen had a huge match for West Bladen, scoring all five of his team’s goals. He tallied a hat trick in the first half, but the Stallions took a 5-3 lead into intermission.

Allen added a pair of goals in the second half, but not until after South Columbus had opened a 6-3 edge. In the final minute of play, Allen was awarded a penalty kick, but his shot was blocked at the net.

Lucas McNeill had an assist for the Knights.

— In Southport on Wednesday, the Cougars of South Brunswick High scored a trio of goals in each half to take a 6-1 Waccamaw Conference win over West Bladen High.

The loss drops the Knights to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Clay Allen scored West Bladen’s lone goal off an assist from Edwin Labra about 10 minutes into the second half.

— In Tabor City on Wednesday, East Bladen High took a 1-0 shutout over South Columbus High in a Waccamaw Conference matchup.

The win improves the Eagles to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

— In Whiteville on Tuesday, the Lady Knights of West Bladen High and Lady Wolfpack of Whiteville High played to a 3-3 draw after the singles matches, but the home team swept the doubles matches to take a 6-3 Waccamaw Conference win.

The loss drops West Bladen to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Lady Knights got singles wins from Erica Tanner at No. 3 (6-4, 4-6, 10-7), Nicole Nye at No. 4 (6-3, 6-4) and Josie Ludlum at No. 5 (6-4, 0-6, 11-9).

— In Whiteville on Tuesday, West Bladen High turned in a late rally to beat back the Lady Wolfpack by the scores of 23-25, 25-8, 15-25, 25-23 and 15-7 in Waccamaw Conference action.

The win improves the Lady Knights to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Kaitlyn Sykes led the West Bladen attack with 31 service points, while Abbey Walters contributed a team-high 13 kills and three aces. Courtney Thompson had eight kills and a pair of blocks, while Mallory Davis added seven kills.

— In Shallotte on Tuesday, East Bladen High fell to West Brunswick High in a Waccamaw Conference match by the score of 25-20, 25-12 and 29-27.

The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
