WHITE LAKE — The White Lake Town Council unanimously voted in favor of adopting a subdivision ordinance on Tuesday. The ordinance will go into effect on July 1, according to Town Clerk Brenda Clark.
A public hearing on the matter was held during Tuesday’s meeting, however, no one signed up to speak, said Clark.
Mayor Goldston Womble told the Journal on Wednesday the ordinance is not retroactive and will only apply to future development.
“This is something the planning board has been, at the direction, of the town working on it for several years,” said Womble. “We’ve had zoning ordinances in place for some time, but didn’t have a subdivision ordinance.”
The ordinance will allow for orderly growth and development of property, said Womble.
The ordinance provides that the landowner get approval before subdividing any property and it gives the town some authority with regards to development, according to Womble.
In other business:
• The town recognized the Lady Eagles basketball team for their accomplishments in the state championship.
• The council adopted a resolution opposing pending legislation transferring the responsibility of state roads to local governments.
• The council adopted a resolution to join Bladen County in developing a hazard mitigation plan.
• The council adopted a proclamation declaring May 13 through May 19 as National Police Week in the town of White Lake.
