— June 20, 2004: Heather Shaw, the daughter of Lyn and Jamye Shaw, and a graduate of N.C. State, is a contestant in the Miss North Carolina Beauty Pageant. She proudly represents Elizabethtown and the region as Miss Central Carolina.

— June 18, 1999: Elizabethtown is a host town for the Special Olympic World Games located in Raleigh. A ceremony welcoming Slovenians began Tuesday at noon. It also acts as the destination town for the Law Enforcement Torch Run that commemorates the event.

— June 18, 1984: The Bladen County Board of Education votes to purchase $38,000 worth of computers and software for the 1984-85 school year in public schools. By this taking this step they hope to "provide computer-assisted instruction in selected classes to enhance the improvement of students writing abilities and skills."
