BLADENBORO — Horace Ray Long, 70, of 9449 N.C. 242 S., died at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown after a crash between his tractor and a pick-up truck that occurred very close to his home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Assistant Bladen County Coroner/Medical Examiner Kenneth Clark, “Long and the pick-up were traveling south on N.C. 242. Long was driving a front-end loader tractor cleaning up debris from his property left by the micro-burst storm last week. The pick-up, traveling at a high rate of speed, stuick Long’s tractor in the back left wheel, tossing Long from the tractor and pinning his legs under neath.”

Clark further added, “The impact of the crash split the tractor in half. Long was transported to Bladen County Hospital were he later died.”

The accident is still under investigation by the N.C. Highway Patrol. Further details were not avalable at press time.
