— Jan. 24, 1952: 1952 Oldsmobile models "Ninety-Eight" and "Super 88" are now on display at H. C. Smith Chevrolet Co., Elizabethtown.

— Jan. 23, 1975: Bladen County receives a grant from the FAA for $19,778 to fulfill Bladen's need of a county airport. The location at the time is not decided.

— Jan. 24, 1985: The story of Robert Packer is told on the front page of this issue. Packer was captured and imprisoned by German troops at the age of 18. When released three months later, Packer weighed a mere 94 pounds.

— Jan. 21, 2000: School children emerge from the south entrance of Bladenboro Primary to be picked up by their parents and notice the mill next door ablaze. Pineland Milling Company, which had been around for more than 50 years, was reportedly set on fire by either a spontaneous combustion or static electricity.

— Jan. 21, 2005: Seven-year-old Colby Ashe of the Center Road Community is declared a champion sheep rider.
