— January 30, 1975: The Max Fields family of Tar Heel is selected as the “Farm Family of the Year” by the Farmers Home Administration for their outstanding management of farming operations.

— January 28, 1985: An intoxicated driver, 37-year-old Otis Pridgen, is finally hand-cuffed after leading law enforcement in a 25-mile chase in a stolen school bus. More than 20 state and local personnel were involved.

— January 28, 2000: Bladen County receives its first major snowstorm since 1989. Snowfall varied from seven inches in the northern part of the county to four inches in the southern. Schools were closed for about a week.

— January 28, 2005: Bladen Relay For Life celebrates nine years of fundraising toward a cure for cancer. In the previous year, Bladen County achieved many national awards for its efforts.
