ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County now has two new child passenger safety technicians.

Stephen Hester and Chris Ivey with Bladen County EMS are both certified child passenger safety technicians, trained to inspect and educate caregivers on how to safely install car seats.

Hester and Ivey attended the training on behalf of Bladen County Health Department in an effort to promote child safety and foster community agency partnerships. The certification is recognized nationally and is a program of Safe Kids Worldwide requiring four days of classroom instruction, tests, skills assessments, and a safety seat checkup event.

Safe Kids Coordinator Berkleigh Pridgen thanked both individuals, as well as Bladen County EMS Director David Howell, for their willingness to partner and better serve the community in keeping children safe.

Techs are available for seat inspection or installations by appointment only. Residents can call Pridgen at 910-872-6252 to schedule an appointment.
