WHITEVILLE — The inaugural Columbus County Fun 4th event in Whiteville will be held on Wednesday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nolan Park, located at 722 Nolan Ave. The mission of the CC Fun 4th is to bring people together for a gathering of fun and community fellowship, while celebrating our nation’s independence.

Music, grilled food, field day games and the Fun 4th Bake Sale will be available all day long. Special events during this year’s Columbus County Fun 4th will run as follows:

9 a.m. — Flag Raising Ceremony

9:45 to 10:45 a.m. —Community Kickball Game

11:15 a.m. — Hula Hoop Contest

11:30 a.m. — Watermelon Eating Contest

The Fun 4th Bake Sale is reserved for churches and non-profits in Columbus County. All proceeds will benefit the respective organizations. To apply, to join the bake sale, please contact Legion and Lewis.

The Fun 4th Community Kickball Game is open to the public; registration is free and will take place in the morning before the game at Nolan Park. Players will be randomly split into a Red Team and a Blue Team. Prizes will be awarded to members of the winning team.

The Columbus County Community Farmers Market is sponsoring the 2018 Watermelon Eating Contest. Registration opens up at 9 a.m. and the contest starts at 11:30 a.m. The entry fees will be $2 for kids and $4 for adults. Fifty percent of all proceeds to be donated to the Veterans Memorial Park of America, Inc. For more information about the contest, call 252-588-0300.
