The Bladenboro and Elizabethtown Rotary clubs are planning to conduct a recognition service for Bladen County’s World War II veterans on Wednesday, May 31, at 1 p.m. at Cape Fear Vineyard & Winery.

These World War II veterans have been referred to by some as the “Greatest Generation.” They left their homeland to serve around the world including such places as Europe, Africa, and the South Pacific in order to defeat fascism and tyranny.

According to Rotarian Darrell Page, the clubs have identified about 12 World War II veterans. The club is still asking for help in locating more veterans.

Families, friends and government officials are asked to notify the Bladenboro or Elizabethtown Rotary Club with World War II veteran locator information. Those with information are asked to contact Page at 910-862-4195 or mail veteran information (name, address, telephone number) to: Honor a WWII Veteran, Rotary Club, Attn: Darrell Page, P.O. Box 2103, Elizabethtown, N.C. 28337.
