LUMBERTON — Robert Dougle “R.D.” Sykes, age 83, of Lumberton, died at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He was born in Bladen County on April 17, 1934, to the late Dougle and Dollie Willoughby Sykes. He previously was employed by the Public Schools of Robeson County in the custodial/maintenance department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cletus Sykes and Leonard Sykes; and sister, Dorinda Causey.

Mr. Sykes is survived by his wife, Nancy Sykes, of the home; daughters, Carolyn Griffin (Roger Martin) of Lumberton, Teresa Armstrong (David) of Greenville, S.C., and Tammy Bradley of Lumberton, N.C.; brother Don Sykes (Valerie) of Moscow, Tenn.; sisters, Argie Smith of Bladenboro, N.C. and Vann Green (Lenue) of Shallotte; grandchildren, Rebecca Armstrong, Chip Campbell, David Armstrong, Ashley Prosser, and Austin Griffin; and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Holiness Church with the Rev. Jami Lewter and the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Bladenboro. A time for visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the church.
