FAYETTEVILLE — A Lumberton woman is the suspect in the armed robbery of a Fayetteville business and is being hunted by police who are asking for the public’s help in finding her.

Police are searching for Hillary Cheyenne Carver, 23, of Lumberton, according to information provided by the Fayetteville Police Department. Carver is suspected of robbing a Sprint Store in Fayetteville on July 31. On that day a woman came into the store about 7:25 p.m. armed with a rifle and demanded cell phones from the clerk.

Man charged in

double-fatal wreck

LUMBERTON — A Robeson County man has been arrested and charged with causing an accident that killed two Wilmington teenagers in February.

Broderick Lamont Jones, of Proctorville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way, according to an investigator with the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office.

His bond was set at $222,500.

Town commissioner

tenders resignation

GARLAND — During a Tuesday meeting, Mayor Winifred Murphy announced the resignation of Commissioner Judy Smith. A letter was presented to the board about her decision and was accepted.

Smith, whose term ran through 2019, is the second commissioner who has resigned in recent months. Commissioner Ralph Smith resigned from the board and recently filed to run for mayor. His vacated seat was filled by Lee Carberry last month. Commissioner Carolyn Melvin, whose terms expires in 2017, said she had plans to leave the board, but an official letter of resignation was not submitted.

Florida man killed

by unknown shooter

TABOR CITY — A Florida man died Saturday afternoon after being shot by an unknown person outside a School Street home, according to Tabor City police.

Jermain Rodrick Nelson Vickers, 30, also known as “Yellow” and “Boo,” was on the front porch of his girlfriend’s home when he was shot around 2:30 p.m. The woman was inside and uninjured.
